I offer a monthly one-day papermaking and lampmaking workshops in my studio in N. Portland, ranging from 3-6 hours in length. Come join the fun and meet others who share an interest in paper! If you would like to schedule a workshop for your own group, please contact me. I am always developing new workshops, so please let me know if you have a particular interest. Please scroll down to see all of my upcoming workshops.

I also travel and teach nationally and internationally. Click here to find out where I’ll be traveling to next, or contact me if you would like to invite me teach privately or through an institution.

I also hold Open Studio sessions twice a month.

Winter Lights

Add a glow to your winter with this traditional Japanese lantern. Learn how to make a foam core armature, wind reed around it and then apply a paper covering. After applying the paper, we’ll remove the armature (which can be reused to make more lanterns!), and end up with a collapsible structure. A variety of lantern shapes will be explored, and each participant will make a table or ceiling lamp. A simple black metal base will be supplied for the table lamp, lightbulb not included.

Saturday, January 23, 10am-4pm, $75 + $15 Materials fee

Revolving Paper Lamp

Design custom cut-out patterns and learn how to wire your own turning lamp. You'll make a pinwheel, which captures the heat to make the lamp spin, and construct the outer frame, which will catch the shadows as they ricochet.

Saturday, March 13, 10am-4pm, $75 + $25 Materials fee

Thanks to my intern, Claire Siepser, for assembling the pictured lamp.

Get Your Hands Wet!

In this action packed afternoon you will be introduced to the basics of papermaking: sheet forming, couching, pressing and drying. There will be lots of cotton pulp of various colors beaten and ready to use, and you will be able to make quite a few small sheets of paper in varying shapes and sizes to be used for artwork, cards and gifts.

Sunday, April 25, 1-4pm, $45 + $10 Materials fee

Panel Shades

Make your own lampshades! In this workshop, participants will learn how to cover wire panel shades with beautiful decorative papers. Learn how to make patterns for covering new shades and then fix up that tattered one lying in the basement.

Tuesday, May 11, 6-9pm, $45 + $15 Materials fee
